One of the most vibrant flavor combinations of the season — where fresh matcha meets the natural sweetness of strawberries and a soft, creamy milk texture.
This drink opens with a bright sweet-and-tangy berry base, followed by smooth milk, and finishes with a clean, refreshing matcha note.
Ingredients
- 50 g fresh strawberries
- 1–2 tsp honey or syrup (to taste)
- 2 g matcha (high or ceremonial grade recommended)
- 45 ml hot water (70–80°C)
- 150 ml milk of your choice
- Ice
How to make
1. Prepare the strawberry base
Blend the strawberries with honey or syrup until smooth. Taste and adjust — it should be fresh and slightly bright, not overly sweet.
2. Assemble the base
Add the strawberry purée to a glass, fill with ice, and pour in the milk. The layers will naturally begin to form.
3. Make the matcha
Sift 2 g of matcha into a bowl. Add 45 ml of hot water (70–80°C) and whisk until smooth and lightly frothy.
4. Finish the drink
Gently pour the matcha over the milk to create a clean layered gradient.
Tip
For a brighter, more refreshing taste, add a small squeeze of lemon juice to the strawberry purée — it enhances the natural acidity and lifts the overall flavor.
Important
Strawberries bring both sweetness and acidity, so it’s best to prepare a slightly stronger matcha shot. This keeps the drink balanced and ensures the matcha flavor remains present.
Which matcha to use
For this recipe, we recommend a richer, more expressive matcha. We used our High Ceremonial Matcha Etenraku, which adds natural creaminess, soft umami, and subtle caramel notes that pair beautifully with berries.
Variation
Serve over plenty of ice for a refreshing summer version. For a smoother texture, lightly stir before drinking — or enjoy it layered for a more visual experience.
